When you love each other, but it still feels hard.
Couples Counseling and Marriage Therapy in Cedar Park, Texas
Maybe you're having the same argument over and over. Maybe you feel more like roommates than partners. Or something happened, like a betrayal, a loss, or a big life change, and you're not sure how to find your way back to each other.
What Is Couples Counseling?
Couples counseling (also called marriage counseling or couples therapy) helps partners understand the patterns behind their conflict, improve communication, and rebuild trust and connection. A trained couples therapist works with both partners together, with the relationship as the focus.
Signs It Might Be Time for Couples Counseling
Conversations turn into conflict, or you avoid them altogether
You feel unheard, unappreciated, or alone even when you're together
Intimacy and affection have faded
Trust has been broken by an affair or other betrayal
You're both trying, but nothing seems to change
How I Help Couples
I don't take sides. The relationship is my client. I'll help you both slow down, understand what keeps you stuck, and learn new ways to talk, listen, and repair after conflict. Change takes effort from both partners, and it's absolutely possible to feel closer, safer, and more like a team again.
Who I Work With
Couples of all kinds: married or not, LGBTQ+, interfaith, intercultural, and diverse relationship structures. In-person sessions in Cedar Park serve couples from Leander, Round Rock, Georgetown, Liberty Hill, and Austin. Virtual sessions are available statewide.
A note on safety: If there is ongoing physical violence, coercion, or fear in your relationship, couples counseling may not be the right first step. Please reach out, and I can help you find support that fits your situation.
Your Questions, Answered
-
It varies. Some couples see progress in [8–12] sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work, especially after an affair or significant rupture.
-
You can start with a consultation to talk through options. If you and your partner disagree about whether to stay together, discernment counseling may be a better fit.
-
It's rarely too late if both partners are willing to show up and try. Many couples wait years before reaching out and still make meaningful progress. If one of you is already leaning toward ending the relationship, discernment counseling may be a better starting point.
-
We'll talk about what brought you in, what each of you hopes will change, and a bit of your history as a couple. Many couples feel nervous beforehand, and most leave feeling relieved to have finally started. You don't need to prepare anything.
-
Often, yes. Early in our work, I usually meet with each partner once on their own to understand their perspective and history. I don't keep secrets that affect the relationship, and I'll explain how that works before individual sessions.
-
Yes. Affair recovery is some of the most important work couples do in therapy. We'll make room for the hurt partner's pain and questions, help the involved partner take meaningful responsibility, and work toward understanding what happened and whether trust can be rebuilt.
-
No. That decision belongs to you. My role is to help you understand your relationship clearly enough to make the choice that's right for both of you.
-
That's okay. Conflict in session gives us a real-time look at your patterns, and I'll help slow things down so it doesn't spiral the way it might at home. Sessions are a safe place to have hard conversations with support.
-
Yes. Alongside EFT, I draw on the Gottman Method for practical communication and conflict tools, and on Family Systems therapy to explore how your family histories shape your relationship. I am Level 1 & 2 trained and consult weekly with a Certified Gottman Therapist.
-
Most couples start with weekly or every-other-week sessions, then meet less often as things improve. We'll decide together based on your needs, schedules, and budget.
-
Yes. I see couples in person in Cedar Park and virtually anywhere in Texas. Couples can also mix in-person and virtual sessions, or join from different locations within Texas when schedules require it.
